Meitantei Katherine SP2 "Kieta Sozokunin" (20 March 2016, TV Asahi) is based on Yamamura Misa's 1982 mystery novel "Kieta Sozokunin". After solving a series of mysterious murders the previous year, US Vice President's daughter, Katherine Turner (Charlotte Kate Fox) returns to Kyoto, Japan. She goes to see her friend and chaperone, assistant university professor, Hamaguchi Ichiro (Tanihara Shosuke). Through Ichiro, she meets a student of his, Tanaka Yoshimi (Kurokawa Tomoka), the sole successor to a thousand year old traditional Kyoto house. Yoshimi is seeking Ichiro's counsel regarding her predicament: her parents wants her to enter a marriage of convenience with a wealthy stranger. Katherine empathizes with her since she herself is currently in a similar situation. Then, the next day, Katherine and Ichiro are shocked to hear that Yoshimi has been kidnapped! According to Yoshimi's father (Murata Takehiro) and mother (Fujiyoshi Kumiko), they already paid the kidnapper's ransom demand of 50 million yen, which was somehow scraped together at the last minute by Tanaka Joji (Ishiguro Ken), Yoshimi's Hawaii-based businessman uncle who is in Japan for work reasons. Even so, Yoshimi has not been returned. Sensing Yoshimi is in the hands of a cruel and treacherously greedy abductor, Katherine devises a way to contact the culprit, and to help save Yoshimi... Meanwhile, a female employee from an apparel company is murdered. Kyoto Police headed by Police Lt. Hashiguchi Daigo (Ukaji Takashi) investigates the case. Inside the room of the victim, they find a photo of Ichiro...
