Sensuikan Cappellini-go no Bouken (Fuji TV) is a two hour special shown on 2 Jan. 2022. It stars Ninomiya Kazunari who portrays Hayami Yohei, an officer in the Japanese Imperial Navy, who studied in Italy for two years and can understand Italian. In 1943, an Italian submarine comes to port bearing crewmen Abele (Peppe), Simone (Francesco Bellissimo), and Angelo (Paolo). They did not know that Italy has already sided with the Allies, thus, becoming an enemy of Japan. Following the directive of his superior Commander Hirota (Tsutsumi Shinichi), Hayami orders the confiscation of their submarine and that the Italian crew be arrested and sent to a POW camp. However, the three men are wily and are desperate to escape so they collaborated with the Japanese Navy in fixing the Italian submarine which for some reason wouldn't run. In return, they were released from the camp and made to stay at Hayami's house which was a former ryokan. Hayami who lives life seriously, and has a strong sense of patriotism and duty, dislikes the Italians' way of life: "Eat, sing, and love". It bothers him that the men will live together with him and his younger sister Sakiko (Arimura Kasumi) whom he strives to protect. Hayami and the Italians often clash due to their difference in values, but as Hayami is exposed to the Italians and their positive attitude, he begins to have a change of heart. However, even this friendship seems to be torn apart in the face of war...
