Ep. 23: "Simmered Taro and Squid"

Episode Synopsis:

The smell of simmering taro and squid made by Master entices his customers to order some. Two of his customers that night, work for a private investigation agency that look into cases of infidelity, and such: the cool and practical Takashi Satomi (Ishibashi Kei), and newbie-in-training with a babe-in-the-woods type of personality, Sasaki (Fuchigami Yasushi). After drinks, they leave the shop and spend the night together. Days later, Sasaki proposes marriage to Satomi. But the lady detective turns it down, saying her feelings are not that simple. Then, Sasaki is given a case that will serve as his test to becoming a regular employee. The case is to determine if a man named Yoshino Junichiro (Furutachi Kanji) is cheating on his wife. When Sasaki was tailing Yoshino, his case takes on an unexpected turn...


Drama Notes:

Satoimo to ika no nimono [里いもとイカの煮もの]. Taro root in Japan is called satoimo which literally means "village potato". Satoimo and squid are said to be a good combination. Here is a recipe of Simmered Taro Root and Squid from cookpad.

The "Handsome Man" kind of woman [男前の女]. This is literally what Chuu-san described Satomi. It seems a recent term, and may be subjective. For example, a woman who is called this may possess these qualities: cool, reserved, practical, and decisive; and she is neither a nit-picker, needy, nagger, nor boorish.
