Ep. 10: "Ham and Eggs set meal, and Cutlet Plate of Edagawa, Koto Ward"

Episode Synopsis.
Drama Notes:

Edagaya, Koto Ward. It is originally one of the land reclamation areas in Koto Ward. It is part of Tokyo's 1914 land-filling project of Tokyo Bay called the "Eda-gawa (River Branch) Improvement Work Plan", from which it derives its name, Edagawa. There is also a community of Korean-Japanese living in Edagawa. "The Korean community dates its presence here to around 1940, when some 1,000 of them were forcibly relocated from (...) ghettos that were slated for redevelopment as part of Tokyo’s abortive bid to host the 1940 Summer Olympics..." During that time, Edagawa was nothing but landfill and location of waste incineration facilities. Now, "the area, with easy access to central Tokyo, has seen a surge in high-rise condominium development" and market values of lands here are now worth billions.

Bagdad Cafe. It's a 1987 German film, "a comedy set in a remote truck-stop café and motel in the Mojave Desert in the US state of California. It centers on two women who have recently separated from their husbands, and the blossoming friendship that ensues..."

Fujiwara Yoshiaki. An actor and pro-wrestler. Born in 1949 in Iwate, he stands 6'1'' and is also an artisan potter.

The warehouse scene. Finally, we get to see Goro's leased warehouse. In the manga, "Special Edition, Simmered Flounder of a certain hospital in Tokyo", Goro was lifting and putting away boxes of his stocks at his warehouse when he fractured a rib. He ended up at a hospital where he enjoyed the hospital food.

Foods (and drink) that were mentioned in this episode (with above pix from left to right):
Yakko tofu [奴豆腐]. Cold tofu salad, also called "hiyayakko". Tofu is served with ingredients like katsuobushi, ginger, mustard, and soy sauce. Recipe: HERE. (pic: dodocook)
Nabeyaki udon [鍋焼きうどん]. A simple udon hotpot with ingredients like vegetables and chicken. Recipe: HERE. (pic: kijoan)
Cosmopolitan pasta [コスモポリタン パスタ]. It seems a new name they're calling any cream-based spaghetti dish, as opposed to Napolitan pasta. (pic: cookpad)
Lemon squash [レモン スカッシュ]. A drink of carbonated lemon-sugar drink. Its old nickname is "ReSka" or "LeSqua" but no one nowadays calls it that for fear of being called "too Showa" or "outdated" (hence, Goro's reaction when the shop owner still nonchalantly refers to is as "ReSka"). Recipe: HERE. (pic: cosme)
Katsu Sara [カツ皿]. Cutlet Plate without rice (if it's with rice, it'll be "Katsudon" or Cutlet Rice Bowl), usually immersed in some cooking liquid or soup. Recipes vary for the soupy sauce. For the saucy broth, yu-korrin of cookpad suggests using some 50cc of kelp stock mixed with 110 cc of water in a pan. When broth is simmering in low heat, add 2 beaten eggs and stir constantly for 5 minutes ("Keep in low heat because it will solidify if it's in high heat"). When done, pour on your katsu (can be store-made-and-ready-to-cook or use your preferred method), and serve with rice, shredded cabbage, pickled ginger and chopped green onions for garnishing. Episode Synopsis.
Goro has a sudden order for wine glasses. Not only that, the client wants it delivered in 2 hours. Goro rushes off to his rented warehouse in Edagawa, Koto Ward. He quickly rummages through his stocks and manages to find the items and somehow deliver it in time. He returns to the warehouse to once and for all, organize his stocks and tidy up the place. While putting things in order inside the hot warehouse, the warehouse custodian, Kawamoto (Sasano Takashi) comes in bringing slices of watermelon and invites Goro to a refreshing break... Later for lunch, Goro leaves his clean up for the meantime and walks to a nearby restaurant called "Atom". It has a peculiar sign and exterior but exudes a mysterious charm. Its owner, who is a beefy old guy (Fujiwara Yoshiaki) serves set meals of Western and Japanese cuisine...
