Soup Curry Ep. 1: Drama Notes

Episode Synopsis. Department store salesman, Wada Shingo (Morisaki Hiroyuki) has recently lost his father who used to run a teishoku-ya (diner that sells set meals). The diner is now closed since Wada has no plans of continuing with it. As he was about to check out a popular soup curry shop, he bumps into his co-worker Saori (Iriyama Noriko) and the two decide to dine together. Wada is interested in soup curry but does not know the essential taste of the dish, setting soup curry fan Saori into a frenzied tirade. Meanwhile...
Actor Urata Hiroshi (Yasuda Ken) has no acting work at the moment and continues being a stay-at-home dad while his wife goes on a business trip. He has a hard time dealing with his teen-aged daughter, Chieko (Ito Sairi). It seems she lacks respect for him for being a house husband. Later, Chieko's homeroom teacher visits Urata to tell him of some troubling news about his daughter...
Since he's nearly forty, cram school teacher Miura Yuji (Totsugi Shigeyuki) is starting to feel the pressure from his fiancee, Minori (Watanabe Marina) and parents to get married quickly and to bear a family at once. Meantime, he notices his student, Yuna (Tasaki Ayaka) is flirting with him and feels drawn to her...
Ceremonial occasion planner Hirame Kiyoshi (Oto Takuma) yearns to provide his wife Ryoko (Nakajima Hiroko) and son with a two-story dream home. He learns that such a dream will cost millions of yen though so he strives to work harder. Together with his family, he holds a wedding 'shower of blessings' ceremony for a couple when the very pregnant bride suddenly goes into labor...
And lastly, culinary expert Igarashi Seiji (Oizumi Yo) hosts a brand new cooking show called "Soup Curry." To start off the show, he will demonstrate how to make a basic soup curry. However, his assistant, TV talent Megumi (Minegishi Minami) is experiencing some trouble since she apparently does not know how to cook...

Team NACS. It comprises the five actors who are starring in the drama. They all hail from Hokkaido, and are graduates of Hokkai Gakuen University in Sapporo where they met as members of the theater guild. The 'NACS' in Team NACS is an acronym for 'North Actors Club Special.' As a group, they've appeared in numerous TV programs in Hokkaido. Their leader is Morisaki ("NACS Riida") being the oldest of the five, followed by Yasuda ("NACS Chinchin"), Totsugi ("NACS Handsome"), Oizumi ("NACS Beshari"), and the youngest, Oto ("NACS Hanare-me").

Sapporo. It is the capital of Hokkaido, as well as its largest city. Aside from its love for soup curry, the city also boasts of being the birthplace of miso ramen, and a rich source of seafood ingredients.

Soup Curry. Unlike traditional Indian and Pakistani curry that use milk and fat and the traditional Japanese style curry (thickened by flour), Soup Curry is a very thin broth type of curry with ingredients (vegetables along with preferred choice of meats) that are generally cut in large pieces.
