Subber's Diary entry#10: Hagane ep5

Just finished the subs for HnO 2's Ep 5 "Where is the ideal school?". It's about the quiet boy, Tsubasa, who is forced to attend a private/boarding cram school or juku run by a formidable strict teacher, Takamura, played by guest veteran actor, Emoto Akira.
It is always at the start of subbing a new drama that the subber has a hard time since one has to yet familiarize herself/himself with the story and the characters. I thought I was getting pretty fast when subbing Hagane since I know the characters so well by now - their manner of speech, nuances, etc. But then, when I was subbing the part when Haga was conversing with Takamura-sensei, it practically took me hours to 'decode' it. As expected from his role as a teacher who wants nothing less than excellence, he talks in a refined manner, using some formal words which I haven't encountered before. I actually liked it though since it's my first time to write lines consisting of formal speech that would best fit an intimidating character such as his.

Even if HnO is not garnering as many downloads as my other project Asuko, I'm still happy that I'm subbing it. I wouldn't exchange if for anything... :)
