Ep. 5: "The Room That Wasn't Locked"

Episode Synopsis. Serizawa is tasked by a client, a housing developer, to look into a certain construction company's alleged shoddy work on a certain house. Plus, he learns that the president of the construction company died inside that house while inspecting it for future repairs. Serizawa goes to the house where he meets its homeowner, a high school math teacher. Detective Kono Mitsuo (Ukaji Takashi) a brassy cop whom he had met earlier, is also present. Kono informs him that the death that happened in the house was a possible locked room case. Later, Enomoto and Aoto show up as well. Apparently, Kono had earlier called Enomoto to look into the scene...

It is a strange locked room case. The whole house had become crooked and misshapen right after the occurrence of an intensity 4 earthquake. The floor tilts and there were cracks all over the walls. The deceased was found inside the living room, appearing to have slipped and hit his head on the concrete ground. The door to this room has no lock, and cannot be closed from the outside because it could not fit into its distorted frame. However, when the body was discovered, the door was found firmly shut, and all the windows were locked and taped with plastic sheets. All other openings are two holes for air-conditioner ducts, big enough for a hand to pass through... Enomoto must connect all the dots to solve this unusual locked room mystery.

Ep. 5 Title Sequence Clues and Hints:

A crack appears all throughout the title sequence (left pic); yellow balls are seen

Person of the Week.
Headline and quotes from Serizawa's magazine interview include:
'Person of the Week'... 'Puts police to shame!' 'Shrewd lawyer who solved many locked room cases'... 'Please consult me with anything'..... 'No job is too big or small'.... 'It’s all important. That is my motto'... 'Don’t just depend on the police'... 'I want to carry through the justice I believe in.'

Kono's Research on Enomoto.
At the end of the episode, the results of Enomoto's palmprint analysis were only partly visible on the screen. What can be read by the viewer is: "For the material received from..." "...Conducted cross analysis with..." "...Possibly belong to an offender..." However, a Japanese viewer claims that other parts of text can be read as "捜査一課鴻野光男により提出されたサンプル榎本径氏の指紋及び掌紋を... 過去に都内で起きた窃盗事件現場で犯人と思われる者の指紋と照合した結果... 同じパターンが検出されなかった". This translates to: "Regarding the Enomoto Kei’s finger and palm prints submitted by Kono Mitsuo of Crime Squad 1... After cross examination of fingerprints left at the theft incident that occurred in Tokyo in the past.... We did not find any in the same pattern...". (Disclaimer: We cannot really verify this. And also, this does not represent our views but we're just showing you other viewers' thoughts. ~earthburi team)

A leisurely pace. "I have a lot of lines, right. And my character talks pretty fast and all that. And he has to talk with utter indifference. I just can't do it with a vague memory. But then for the first three episodes, I still had time, relatively speaking. Well, I was just cramming but still. Now there's less and less time, there are times when I'm just going with a vague recollection. Like a line or two of script. Well, to that extent it's fine. Then when I'm on location, I'll completely omit saying that one line altogether. (Laughs) It's funny.... So it's best to take my time. Memorise at a leisurely pace... Well, at my own pace anyway... I'll do my best with what's left of the drama!"
