Episode Synopsis. Sakurada is berating Nishiki and Jiro once again for missing another deadline. However, this time it was cut short since Sakurada has somewhere to go. Later, at midnight, the two mangaka are listening to a radio program while finishing their manuscript. Then, they hear the voice of their editor on the radio. Both Nishiki and Jiro send in their question anonymously as well: "What shall we do if the work is so hard and difficult?" To their surprise, Sakurada's answer is...

Featured Food Literature (with corresponding book covers from left to right):
"Kagami no Hana"『鏡の花』by Michio Shusuke (道尾秀介) (under Shueisha). Synopsis by abookhouse: "If you did not have a special person, what will your life be like? Story draws parallel worlds where the main character has a special person in one, and not in the other." The novel is a sequence of 6 stories with multiple characters, each with a different story to tell. Each character lost a special person in his or her life in one story but alive in the other. In the last story (same title of the book), everyone is alive and has a chance to cross paths with each other... Since I'm interested in this book, I researched on the synopsis. I am not sure if I got the details and spelling of names correctly though:
First Story, "Yasashī Kaze no Michi" (Gentle Wind on the Road) 「やさしい風の道」: Eight year old Shouya is riding the bus alone on his way to his former family home where his sister had mysteriously died a year before he was born. His parents had sold the house after going through the trouble of paying the mortgage and settled in an apartment. Why did his sister die, and why was the house sold off? When he arrived at the house, he finds an old man covered in beard, named Seshita living alone there. The old man's wife is dead, while his son is working in a place far away from home... (Note: this is the excerpt that was read in this episode: Seshita cooking asparagus and snap beans for Shouya)
Second Story, "Kienai Hana no Koe" (Voice of a Flower That Refuses to Vanish) 「きえない花の声」: In this story, Seshita Sakae is a 58 year old widow. When her son Toshiki was a first-grader in elementary school, her husband died in an accident in the sea 18 years ago. He was working at a forestry experimental site at that time but what was he doing in the sea on the day of of his death? When her husband was alive, Sakae felt the shadow of a woman named Kijima Yuno who was her husband's co-worker but... A sense of grudge and a mystery 18 years ago will lead to an unexpected conclusion.
Third Story, "Tayutau Umi no Tsuki" (Fluttering Sea of the Moon) 「たゆたう海の月」: Seshita and wife Sakae have moved to a new place. It was a house where a little girl had died last spring, falling from the veranda. After some time, their own son, Toshiki also died, falling off a cliff. Before he died, he sent them a mysterious postcard. On this card, a forest of twisted black pine trees, and two butterflies leisurely flying against the wind had been drawn. What was Toshiki trying to say with this postcard?
Fourth Story, "Tsumetai Natsu no Hari" (Cold Summer of Malice) 「つめたい夏の針」: First year high school student Shoko is secretly dating her best friend Maemi's younger brother Naoya. Shoko had a younger brother too named Shouya, but he died seven years ago. If Shouya were alive, he would have been a 2nd grade junior high school student, same as Naoya. And if Shouya were alive, Shoko would not felt such desire. For the first time, Shoko decides to confront her brother's death...
Fifth Story, "Kasokeki Hoshi no Kage" (The Shadow of a Fleeting Star)「かそけき星の影」: This time, the ones who are dead in this parallel world are Maemi and Naoya's parents. Meanwhile, Meshisaki Ritsu is married to Seshita Toshiki. Ritsu encounters Maemi and Naoya at a bus stop. Interestingly enough, siblings Shoko and Shouya are living 4 houses away. Ritsu's mother, Yuno is sick, an old sickness of the blood has recurred. Later, it became clear what caused the fire that killed Maemi and Naoya's parents, and that before a life is born, another life vanishes...
Sixth and Final Story, "Kagami no Hana" (Mirror of Flowers) : In an inn located in a town known for its tradition of manufacturing mirrors since the Edo period, 11 guests have come to stay. One group consists of two sets of siblings, Shoko and Shouya, and Maemi and Naoya. They have come to see the midsummer Orion that is only visible at dawn of the next day. The other group consists of Toshiki, wife Ritsu, their two year old son, Sokai, plus the couple's parents: Mr. and Mrs. Seshita, and Mr. and Mrs. Meshisaki. Toshiki wanted to spend time with all of them since he will be leaving soon for a job that will assign him far away from home. Also, because of circumstances, there seems to be some ill feelings between the Seshita couple and the Meshisaki couple. So the young couple came up with this trip to help patch things up between the in-laws. Meanwhile at this Hishihana Inn where a ginkgo tree stands in the middle of the reception hall, there is a second grade school girl who stays there named Miyo. She has tragic scars on her face. She got the scars in an accident that occurred in the mirror factory of her grandfather. Her grandfather kept apologizing to her up to his death. But Miyo wanted to tell him that he's wrong. One night, Miyo stepped into the world on the other side of the mirror, and disappeared...

"Yōkai Apāto no Yūgana Nichijō 3-Kan"『妖怪アパートの幽雅な日常 3巻』by Kōzuki Hinowa (香月日輪)(under Kodansha). Title loosely translates as "The Elegant Everyday Life at Ghost Apartment", nicknamed "YoApa". It has 10 volumes, plus some special volumes. The protagonist, Inaba Yushi is trying to study for his high school entrance exam. He lost his parents in an accident when he was in middle school. He moved in with his uncle and his family but due to discord, he left and tried to stay at a boys' dorm. But the dorm burned down so he is forced to move into an apartment with cheap rent plus delicious meals. It turns out to be a strange apartment with both living and the dead (as well as specters) as tenants. Even the landlord is a specter. Throughout the series, he got to know a lot of people and ghosts, and continued to stay on at the apartment and eventually, grew up as a working adult. In the excerpt read in this episode, Vol 3., Ruriko, the cook for the tenants, prepares Tonshabu Bukkake Udon for some of the tenants one night. Ayumi's accident resulted to their parents' divorce, and Shinya somehow feeling responsible, has withdrawn from the basketball team to prioritize taking care of his sister. One morning, Ayumi finds a stranger sleeping in the kitchen. Thinking he is another of her mom's new boyfriends, she slaps him up to wake him. He is sporting a red mohawk, which reminds Ayumi of a chicken's crown so she began calling him "Chiki-san". Described as "an ugly male version of Mary Poppins", Chiki-san comes into the lives of Shinya and Ayumi, bringing along his delicious cuisine. Chiki-san's favorite saying is "A happy home is said to be a house that always has clean towels and fresh eggs."
