Episode 3: "To the Ocean, Young Miss with two days left to live and Elopement of Love ~ Shinigami VS Devil"

Episode Summary:
Shinigami No. 413 is blamed once again this time for another alarming incident. The devil or Akuma (Suda Masaki) has slipped into the human world while everyone in heaven was busy looking for the Shinigami Notebook. Akuma is said to prey on weak-willed humans by taking their souls in exchange for granting three wishes, thus leading to unscheduled deaths. Meanwhile, this Akuma has immediately chosen a human to strike a deal with. He is Kirishima Joji (Emoto Tokio), a lonely man who does not excel in looks, skills, luck nor charisma. Kirishima's first wish is to make every woman he talks with fall in love with him... At that same time, Shinigami has gone to meet his next Assigned-To-Die human, Saionji Hitomi (Sugisaki Hana), a pampered but sickly girl from a rich, prominent family. When asked what she wants to do before she dies, Hitomi says she wants to freely go out into the outside world on her own, without any escort. As usual, the kind-hearted Shinigami agrees to help by distracting her bodyguard while she makes her escape. However, he, too has lost sight of the girl...
Drama Notes:

Episode Three Story. It is based on "Umi e... no maki", Story 6 of Volume 5. In the manga, the shades-wearing man who made a deal with the devil seems "sleazebag-ier" compared to the one than in the drama. Spoiler! But just like in the drama, he changed his douchebag ways because of the girl. In the TV version, her parents were never shown (except for a pic of the dad). But in the manga's ending, the parents were able to track their daughter down at the beach. She left a note to her parents explaining how she asked to be left to do what she wants for the last moment of her life. And the parents seem remorseful and sad. They also seem to have forgiven the man who "kidnapped" her because they saw how mournful he was, and how he sincerely helped their daughter fulfill her death wish. It wasn't mentioned in the drama about why Akuma's magic did not work on the dying girl (she did not fall in love with the guy at the start), but an explanation is found below...

Manga Character Highlight: Akuma-kun. Shinigami-kun's arch nemesis, Akuma-kun appeared in the published manga at a rate of once every 6 months. He first appeared in Story 6 of Vol. 1, "Shinigami-kun VS Akuma-kun no maki". He and Shinigami-kun would often get along like cats and dogs. He takes a human's soul in exchange for three wishes, and uses his magic aggressively. However, his powers are limited. Possible Spoilers: His contract is not valid for humans who are already dead, or has less than one month to live (this probably explains why Hitomi did not fall in love with Kirishima, and why Kirishima did not make a wish for her to live. I'm guessing that this limit in Akuma's powers will be tackled further in future episodes, too). Just like Shinigami-kun's appearance, Akuma-kun also looks comically cute and does not look like he can do anything cruel. There were some cases that he aborted his own contracts though. In the drama, he is portrayed by Suda Masaki.

Marguerite flowers. Hitomi's favorite flower is Argyranthemum, or Marguerite daisy or dill daisy.
