Episode Summaries:
Ep. 88. The announcement of the Idol election results is underway. Aki: 'At the time, the members of GMT are about to be bestowed judgment in the Hole.' The girls are watching the event live through the internet. Meanwhile...
Aki's filming of her drama debut has also started. Cast and crew are ready to film in the studio. Takuma is also there watching while listening to ongoing live event at Ueno through his smartphone. Hiromi acts her scene of pressing the apartment doorbell of a certain 'Shimada-san' but Aki as Neighbor C, opens the other door and says her line way too soon. "Cut!" shouts the director. Koike the AD, tells Aki to wait for her cue before coming out. "I was here giving you the cue, didn't you see it?" Aki: "What's a 'cue'?" AD: "Oh, it's 'prompt'." Aki: "Prompt? Okay, yes! (Later) What's a 'prompt'?" AD: "It's a signal to open the door." Aki: "Oh! You should have said so! lol" The cameraman shouts, "Okay, (clapper)board!" Aki: "What's a 'board'?...
At the theater, Futomaki, shown on the giant screen says, "This is a fair vote. This is not a fake organized elections at all. So any results I'm about to announce, I hope you will sincerely receive... So first, I will announce the 'Reserves' from Nos. 30 to 21. These 10 girls will fill in the vacant positions, and participate in the New Year show... No. 30... Fujikawa Noribi..."
Aki is still messing up her part. Everyone seems to be getting impatient especially the director and Hiromi. Aki doesn't open the door of her 'apartment' because she could not see the AD's signal. She is asked to 'count slowly on her own' for 5 seconds. Aki does so but counting 5 seconds 'slowly on her own' took 18 seconds. Director: "Too long!"
"No. 29..." Futomaki continues with the announcement of the 'Reserves' results. "GMT6 Miyashita Ayumi." In the Hole, Ayumi and the girls burst into cheers. "Hurry and go!" Ayumi crying out of happiness goes up to the stage.
Back at the studio. Aki this time opens the door right on time. But... "Suzuka-san had moved last week." Director: "Cut! Wrong name!" Aki: "Eh? What should I say?" AD: "Shimada-san." Aki: "What did I say?" Hiromi answers, "Suzuka-san." Aki laughs at her mistake. Hiromi also laughs but in an exasperated kind of way. "I wouldn't want to move, right?"
Futomaki: "No. 26... Endo Mana!" Mana who is lying down on a couch, feeling too nervous and sick, hears her name and could not believe it. "No way!" The girls congratulate her, and she, too, leaves the Hole crying and goes up the stage.
Aki this time delivers her line but still... "Koike-san had moved last week." "CUT!" shouts the director and asks his AD, "Koike, what's the next take?" AD: "36." The director could not believe it's taking this long for just one line. The next take is about to begin but Takuma's phone rings. "Who is that?! Turn off your devices when inside the studio!" Takuma apologizes and answers his phone.
"Next, from 20 to 9..." Futomaki continues while the crowd of cheerers and supporters applaud and wait below the theater. "I will announce the Regulars." The crowd chants, "Regular, Regular!" Futomaki: "No. 20... GMT Onodera Kaoruko!" Kaoruko bursts into tears when she hears her name. The other remaining girls, Eren and Shiori congratulate her. "Go on now, Regular!"
Aki meanwhile has delivered her line perfectly and on cue. She realizes she was able to do it finally and grins happily. Director: "Cut! You mustn't smile!" Aki: "Oh, right! Sorry!" They set it up again. Takuma goes to Aki to tell her he's going back to the theater. "There's a bit of a problem. Sorry." Aki asks him if her name has been called. Takuma says no. Aki: "It'll be okay, right? 'Cause my misanga broke." She shows him her remaining bracelets.
Futomaki: "Before I announce the 'Hakkenden,' next are the 'Beyonds' from No. 31 and below... In other words, I will announce the Hole group." Aki: 'The members of GMT did not expect
that their straightforward promotional activities would result in a big strong showing... That its influence resulted to an upset.' "No. 31... Arima Megu." A shocked audience lets out cries and groans. Some fans even fainted. As Aki the narrator says, 'AmeJo's Center, Arima Megu-chan, alias Mamerin, had an unexpected fall to the Hole.'
By this time, Eren and Shiori are left below. As more names of other girls are announced, they know that their chances of getting called are becoming slimmer and slimmer. (Dammit... Really so hard to watch! TTT____TTT)
But then... "No. 38..." Futomaki continues, "What-What is this?... How do you read this? Eh? Ki- Kya..." Ellen's name and picture is flashed on the screen. "Kyan Eren, GMT Okinawa!" But Ellen did not smile nor break into cheer. Instead, she looks at Shiori and apologizes (omg i was crying buckets at this scene, heck, even now just by remembering it *punches hole through wall*) "I'm sorry." Shiori smiles and says, "Nankurunai sa (Don't worry)." Eren: "We don't know yet who the last two are... It must be you and Aki-chan, right? There's no way you'll be dismissed." Shiori laughs and pushes her to go up the stage, "Go already!" Shiori: "You really did your best... It'll be okay. Come quickly okay? We'll be waiting."
Eren leaves and Shiori is the only one left now. She and Aki are just the remaining GMTs left who have not been called. "Next. No. 39." says Futomaki from the screen. Audience: "Two more! Two more!" Futomaki: "Narita Rina!... Next No. 40...." Audience: "One more to go! One more to go!"
And finally...
"Shimada-san had moved last week," says Neighbor C. The heavily pregnant lawyer looks at Neighbor C and says, "Is that so? Oh." She goes off down the hallway. Director shouts, "Cut! OK!" The very patient AD Koike cheers for Aki. "You did it! You did it! Thanks for the hard work!"
The tired crew and pissed Director walks away, as Aki bursts into tears for finally finishing up her small part.
Aki apologizes to them as well. She also thanks Hiromi and says sorry. Hiromi: "Never mind. It's okay. See you tomorrow." Aki: "Eh? Is it okay?" Hiromi: "Of course." Hiromi: "Just as an assistant... As an actress, it's impossible." Aki: "What?" Hiromi: "You’re fun companion and nice to have you around. But as an actress, you're not suited for it.. You're no good..." She walks away but a shocked Aki asks her, "You did tell me, 'You remind me of my old self," right?" Hiromi: "I was mistaken! What a laugh, so funny... So, I can't give you acting part any more... If you're okay with that, you can keep coming. I'm sorry, if this happens again. I'll lose my job too..." She goes back to her dressing room, tired. "Thanks for the hard work, everyone!"
"No. 40..."
Taneichi who has arrived at the front of the theater, has been watching the event, too. He has a worried look on his face as Aki's name hasn't been called yet. The rest of the audience, including Shiori wait with bated breath.
"...Takahata Arisa. That's all." Futomaki continues... "The following members are to be dismissed as promised. GMT Iruma Shiori. Also, Amano Aki..." Shiori probably could not hear the rest anymore. Outside the audience is chanting, "Dismissed! Dismissed!..."
A devastated Shiori is leaving and goes to the attendance board. Instead of turning over her nameplate, she takes it with her, and goes out the door. But Takuma goes after her. She says, "Though it was for a short time, thank you for everything." She bows to him and walks away but Takuma pulls her back to the Theater. "There's something you don't know yet."
Aki goes back to the theater still unaware that she has been dismissed. She is too sad and feeling down over what Hiromi had told her. Taneichi sees her and thinks she already knows. "Too bad about the voting." Aki: "What?" Realizing it, Takuma utters, "Jeh! Weren't you feeling depressed?... Jejeh! Uwah, I'm sorry! Sorry, my bad." Aki: "The misanga broke though." Taneichi: "Eh?" Aki: "Even though one of the misangas broke off yesterday, nothing good came out... Oh, right. Katsue-san and Yayoi-san were dozing when they were weaving the misangas. Somehow, it's why my wish didn't come true." Taneichi: "Well, it's not really the case." He shows Aki an email message on the phone. "A little while ago, Yui emailed me for the first time. Her dad had been discharged." Aki: "Jejejejeh! Adachi-sensei? And then Yui will come, won't she? She will come to Tokyo! I see!... That's why it broke off! The Ama misanga did it..."
Just then, Mana comes and tells her that something happened. "Ayumi-san has quit GMT! Hurry, come!"
Ep. 89. Inside the Heartful Office, Ayumi is being questioned by Kawashima and Takuma. Kawashima shows her pics in the laptop. They were seemingly candid shots of Ayumi looking sweetly intimate with a certain guy. Kawashima says they were sent by an anonymous person. "Answer honestly. Who is this guy?" Takuma: "A friend? Like from your part-time job... (Then, he tries to give her a way-out) Areh, isn't he your big brother..." But Ayumi refuses it. "He's my boyfriend." Kawashima orders her to read the company's 3 Rules on Prohibited Love, printed in huge posters pinned on the board. "Don't take pictures. Don't get your picture taken. Don't go with them." Kawashima: "Honestly, I'm surprised. Not just main members but I never thought I have to keep eye on the Hole group, too. Because you're all nobodies, basically you're all ordinary people. Then, may be this was taken by someone within, don't you think? That's scary, Amejo is scary!!" Takuma feeling offended by Kawashima's remarks, and says, "No, it's not! I mean, AmeJo wouldn't do such a thing, right?" Kawashima nods and asks Ayumi what she will do now. She asks to be given 5 seconds to think about it, but answers in two seconds: "I quit... I love my boyfriend." Kawashima asks her if she's serious. "You can't come back to the Hole!" Ayumi: "It's okay. I rather do my best for my boyfriend, instead with friends who will betray me without any hesitation. Thank you for everything!"
There is a tensed atmosphere at the Hole. The managers and the girls are there, including Aki who has just arrived. Shiori is looking at the pics of Ayumi and her boyfriend. "What does this mean?" Ayumi: "Pictures were taken. I'm going to live with him. I'll quit being an idol. I'm already 21.. and I love him." Shiori (to Takuma): "Mizuguchi-san, what did you mean when you said, I don't know it yet." Takuma: "Since Ayumi has quit, those below No. 29 will move up one by one... You barely made it at No. 40, and won't get dismissed." Shiori flares up at Ayumi, and shoves her down on the floor. The girls try to stop her. "I don't want such a thing! It's disgusting so just stop it! What did you do a stupid thing for? You think I'd be happy if you quit and I moved up? Stop messing around! If you intend to be an Idol, you shouldn't be dating!" Then she realizes what she had done. "I see, that's it... Because I'm annoying character like this, that's why I didn't make it." She goes and sits down. Ayumi, crying, goes down on her knees. "Sorry, Leader! I'm really sorry! I had suspicions... I thought you may be the one took these pictures... Because I only told you about having a boyfriend... I'm sorry. I'm such a dubious person... I'm the worst!"
"What happened, Amano?" Aki hears someone behind her. It is Takuma who somehow managed to go down the Hole to see what is going on. Aki doesn't answer and just glares at him. "What're you doing here?"
"What work does he do?" Eren asks Ayumi. "He's a cook. Works part-time at a Ninja izakaya in Shinjuku." Takuma somehow finds that funny and lets out a soft chuckle (Gyohten, is that you? lol). The girls glare at him, too and he apologizes. Ayumi continues, "We're in love. We're also thinking of getting married. Someday, I'm going back to Tokushima... Two of us are talking about setting up a shop. I have caused you so much trouble..."
"In that case, quit, girl! By all means, quit!" They were uttered by Futomaki, standing on top of the stairs. Girls: "Jejeh!... What is this, we thought you were in New York?" Futomaki goes down the stairs as he explains: "That was a recording. Other words, it was a composite. I was in the sushi shop." He holds up a sushi in his hand. Eren: "Ah~... you deceived us." Futomaki: "The Strictly-No-Love is not a rule to tie you guys down. As young people, you have hidden possibilities. Consider it as being given an opportunity. Do you want to live the stoic life of an Idol... Or have a relationship and drown in love with your boyfriend? (Looks at Ayumi) You want an exclusive relationship (with your boyfriend), don't you?" Ayumi: "Yes." Futomaki: "She said 'yes' (chuckles sarcastically)... (to everyone) Listen! Healthy women want to love. Those who suppress such an understandable feeling gets to stand on the stage. That's what an Idol is. Few people are chosen for this work. Right, Ama-chan?" Aki: "Yes." Futomaki: "Don't 'Yes' me! Didn't you have 40 outtakes at the set today?" Taneichi: "Jejeh! Seriously... For real?" Futomaki: "For real alright! It's the opposite of talent. Somehow flubbing up 40 times..." Aki: "I'm sorry! Next time, I'll make sure--" Futomaki: "There won't be a next time! Nothing good will happen for you anymore. This is the answer. There is no one here that needs you." He gobbles up the sushi in his hand, and removes a poster written presumably by Aki ("If everyone wins, let's go out for sushi!") and hands it to her. He continues. "All of you should be down in the dumps! Don't be fooled by your young age!" All the girls respond sadly, "Yes, sir" as he leaves.
Next, we see Ayumi leaving the dorm, and saying goodbye to the girls. As she said, she had quit GMT and is going to live with her boyfriend. They had their souvenir picture taken as well. Ayumi thanks the girls for everything and says she will be cheering for them. Shiori: "I owe you but I'm not going to thank you. Once I make it to the top, I'll thank you." She goes and gives her a hug.
For the rest of the girls, Aki explains, 'Onodera-chan got a big promotion as regular member of AmeJo. But she will live at the dorm until spring when her Mom moves to Tokyo... Mana-chan of Saga was promoted as reserve... And will also appear at the New Year Live show. But, until she saves enough money, will continue to stay at the dorm. Kyan-chan of Okinawa and Leader are in the Hole group along with Mamerin who fell from the top. And as for me... I replaced an AmeJo who had been dropped to the Hole and decided to retire... so somehow, I slipped to No. 40. But rather than feel happy or relieved about it, I feel angry about myself, hoping for something like this. And what Futomaki-san said... ("There is no one here that needs you!") ...is still in my mind.'
During the New Year show of AmeJo, Mana and Kaoruko are taking part in it. For the rest, the basement is being used as a waiting room, so the Hole group was driven out. So for the New Year, Shiori went back to her home. And since Eren was worried Aki will be alone for the New year, she remained in the dorm with her. Aki apologizes to Eren for that. Eren: "Don't mind it. Because a round-trip airfare is just a waste. By the way, Aki, don't you have a home in Setagaya?" Aki remembering the time that the woman was there, says, that home is not a home for her. Then, Taneichi arrives bearing sushi set gifts for the girls. "My boss asked me to deliver it to you." Eren mimicking the sourish smile of Umezu. "Oh, that Chef Gross-san?" Taneichi: "He thought you'd be lonely since there's only two of you. (To Eren) Eh? My Boss is gross?" Eren: "Uh, yes. Something like the feeling of a habu (viper)... Like in his eyes, and his movements, it's kinda like a habu, isn't it?" He is about to leave when Aki asks him, "Aren't you going home (to Kitasanriku), Senpai?" He answers, "I can't anymore, there's a New Year banquet we have to do..." He smiles at Aki: "Do your best! I shouldn't be the one to say this but... I feel that going home in this timing is like admitting my failure..." Aki seems to be taken aback by that last remark from Taneichi. She thanks him and says goodbye.
Later, the two girls watch the New Year show through the internet while eating their sushi. "Ah! There's Onodera-chan!" They start to dance and sing along to AmeJos' "On the Calender is December." And then Aki stops and mutters, "I wish I could be in it..." Eren takes her mind off it by offering her her uni sushi (in exchange for Aki's cucumber sushi), and Aki happily accepts it. As she bites it, 'something about the taste of uni on that day touched a particular part of me.' Then, memories of Kitasanriku come flooding back to her...
"It's no good..." She stands up and goes to her room. "I'm going back after all! I'm going home!" She explains to a perplexed Eren. "If we go now, we can catch the late-night bus ride to Miyako!"
Ep. 90. On a snowy first day of 2010, a KitaTetsu train, bearing Aki and Eren, arrives at the main station in Kitasanriku. It is Aki's first time to come back after 4 months.
At the train stationmaster's booth, Yoshida sees her first. "Jejeh!" He is so flabbergasted as he tries to call Daikichi, that he jumbles up "Jeh" and "Ekicho" (station master) together. "Jekicho!" Daikichi sees Aki too and is pleasantly surprised. "Aki-chan! Welcome back!" Aki greets them a happy new year and introduces Eren to them. The men give them hot milk (?) and chats with them at the lobby. Aki meanwhile asks if the Rias shop is closed for the holiday. Daikichi says it's open since customers are doing "Hatsumode" (first shrine visit of the New Year) so it's business as usual. Haruko arrives not knowing Aki is coming so she is surprised to see her, too. She exclaims in full Tohoku accent. "Jejeh! The heck, why didn't you say you'll come back!" Aki: "I changed my mind. Since it was too sudden, I wasn't able to bring omiyage (gifts)." She introduces Eren who greets them with "Haisai!"
Later inside the Rias, Sugawara and Ben drop in to see Aki. They happily greet each other and Eren is introduced to them as well. Then, Eren notices another person had come in. "Say, Aki? One who looks like a Yankii, is looking over here." Aki looks and sees Yui, sitting glumly behind the bar. "Yui-chan?!" Yui does not say anything and just scowls at her. Haruko: "She helps around in the shop." Aki: "Jejejejeh! Since when?" Yoshida: "November. It's been hard, when her Mom went up and left." Aki to herself: 'I had forgotten. That I did bring an omiyage from Tokyo... But I mustn't say it.' Ben: "She does say hello to me while looking at me in the eye. (Looks at Yui) She hasn't yet today but..." Haruko tries to egg the two on. "What's the matter with you, Aki and Yui-chan! It's been a while so you gals should catch up!" But Aki tries to change the topic by saying, "Somehow, Mom, it sounds strange to hear you speak with an accent." Haruko "Jejeh! Is that so?" Daikichi stands up and goes over to Haruko. He places his hand on her shoulder like in an affectionate way. "I don't think it sounds funny! Haruko (without using an honorific) is a Sodegahama woman, it should only be natural to have an accent." Aki notices it. "Areh? Areh areh? There's something different about you two." Sugawara: "You're really perceptive, Aki-chan." Yoshida: "Since it's a sensitive issue, you should hear it in person." Aki: "What is it?" Daikichi: "Actually, I have proposed to her!" Aki: "Jejejeh!" Daikichi: "Last Christmas... It's already one year since Haruko had the divorce so I thought it's about time." Aki remembers what her father had said ('We've broken up. And I guess, I still love my wife...). Aki: 'Shoot! I needed more than one omiyage'. But Haruko says, "I haven't given him an answer yet."
Ben now shifts his attention to Eren. "You're quiet, Kyan-chan, you want me to make you amber earrings?" He shows off a big piece of rough amber. Eren: "No thanks, my ears are not pierced yet." Yoshida: "Are you having fun?" Eren: "Not really 'having fun'... (In Okinawan dialect) I don't understand what you're saying... But I think I'm enjoying myself a bit." Everyone is quiet, trying to get what she just said. Yoshida; "Dunno what she said! It's the language barrier! LOL" Then Daikichi stands up to sing. Everybody expects it to be a song from Begin in honor of their guest but of course, he chooses 'Ghostbusters.' Eren is happy with the selection anyway, and gets up to dance an Okinawan dance. Sugawara: "It's a fusion of Okinawa and 'Ghostbusters'!"
Meanwhile, Aki notices Yui had gone out and goes after her. "Yui-chan!" She stops when she sees Yui with her Yankii boyfriend, leaving the station, with his arm around her shoulders. Hiroshi arrives, saying that maybe they're off to go and do Hatsumode. "Since she quit the high school, she changed friends too... She didn't even acknowledge those people before..." Aki: "Taneichi-senpai still intends to go steady with Yui-chan." Hiroshi tells her to keep it a secret from him. "Eventually, he will also open his eyes and realize it." Aki: 'Jeez, how can this be, every time I see some one, I need more omiyage. And it’s only been 4 months..' Hiroshi hands her hot milk and greets her with "welcome back."
Next, Aki brings Eren to the Ama Cafe. Rokuro sees her first and calls out everyone. Of course, everyone erupts in "Jejejehs" and "Aki! Aki!" except for Tamako who is in a serious mood in the kitchen, trying to perfect the taste of Mamebu for the New Year. The young rookies also greet and congratulate her for "winning by default" in the recent idol elections. Aki smiles wryly and hastily introduces Eren to them. Aki: "Oh, and speaking of mamebu, I met Anbe-chan in Tokyo. She's traveling via food truck, selling mamebu by herself..." (Meanwhile, Anbe is in Tokyo trying her best to sell "Mamebu!" amidst other vendors who are selling "Kebabu!" or kebab).
The frank Yayoi notices Eren. "Areh? What's with you? Though you're from Okinawa, you're awfully quiet." And the equally frank Eren answers back in Okinawan dialect. "No, no. It's not that I'm from Okinawa, it's you guys who are really noisy." The Ama-sans are quiet. Then, Yayoi: "Have no idea what you just said!" Katsue: "Guess we can cancel each other out!" They all laugh.
Then they ask Aki if she found a boyfriend in Tokyo. The rookie Amas say that it's impossible. "The training is too strict, right? And also, love is prohibited among AmeJo, isn't it?" Aki answers coyly, "Oh, well." Everyone: "Oh, well? Seems there is something huh!" Aki sees the stage where she performed with Yui during the Ama Sonic, and reminisces.
Next, Aki takes Eren to the Amano home. From inside they hear people shouting.
Natsu: "I've had enough! You told me you wanna eat zoni (rice cakes) so I took my time to make it for you!" Chuubei: "I never said I want to eat zonii! I just said zonii sounds good." Natsu: "What’s the difference! Along with zonii, I worked hard to make New Year special dishes too. And you have the nerve to say you want to eat ham!?" (lmao!) They continue to squabble and Chuubei says he's leaving. Natsu: "Yeah, go! Go!" Chuubei opens the door and sees Aki. "Aki!" "Jii-chan!" Natsu sees her, too and shoves aside her husband to hug her granddaughter. "Aki Aki Aki~!"
Back at the Rias...
Isono-sensei comes in looking for Aki. They tell him he's too late, and that she already went home. Isono is disappointed since he bought a board for her autograph.
Then another unexpected guest arrives. "Jejejeh! Adachi-sensei!" Isao has come in, assisted by Hiroshi. The older man greets them, "It's been a while!" Everyone is so delighted with today's events. "Well, what's with this day today, huh?What is this!"
At the Amano home, Misuzu, Katsue and Rokuro gather to have a feast with the Amano family and Eren. They talk with Eren regarding her and Okinawa. Misuzu: "The ocean here is pretty different, isn't it?" Eren: "Have you been there?" Misuzu: "I lived there for 6 months." Katsue, says teasingly, "With a man?" Misuzu: "I wasn't necessarily alone." They joke on how Misuzu's life story seems getting more and more interesting "with each new episode." Katsue tells her she should write her autobiography. Misuzu: "It's just that... I can't write." They guffaw heartily.
Chuubei suggests to Natsu that they should both visit Okinawa someday. Natsu: "No thanks. I've never even been to Tokyo." Aki: "Yeah. It's because she knows that this is the best place to be, right?" Rokuro: "So how's Tokyo, Aki? Were you able to have many friends?" Aki: "Well, I don't know if they're 'friends' but..." Aki is thinking, 'The truth is there are many things I wanted to tell them but... if I start talking, I feel I won't be able to stop... So I just stayed silent.' Eren to Aki: "But Aki, you're really something." Aki: "Why?" Eren: "Wherever I go, everyone is going 'Aki, Aki!' Over here you really ARE an idol." Everyone agrees to that, and Aki smiles. She says to her, "But it'll be the same for you once you go back to your hometown, right?" Eren: "I wonder about that... But I do feel like I wanna go back home."
Then Aki hears her phone ring. She inspects it and sees a message from Yui asking her to come to the Ama cafe. She excuses herself to Eren, promising to come back.
At the Ama Cafe, Aki sees Yui sitting on the stage, painting her nails. Yui looks up at her, still not seemingly friendly at all...

Hiromi acts her scene of pressing the apartment doorbell of a certain 'Shimada-san' but Aki as Neighbor C, opens the other door and says her line way too soon. "Cut!" shouts the director. Koike the AD, tells Aki to wait for her cue before coming out. "I was here giving you the cue, didn't you see it?" Aki: "What's a 'cue'?" AD: "Oh, it's 'prompt'." Aki: "Prompt? Okay, yes! (Later) What's a 'prompt'?" AD: "It's a signal to open the door." Aki: "Oh! You should have said so! lol" The cameraman shouts, "Okay, (clapper)board!" Aki: "What's a 'board'?...
At the theater, Futomaki, shown on the giant screen says, "This is a fair vote. This is not a fake organized elections at all. So any results I'm about to announce, I hope you will sincerely receive... So first, I will announce the 'Reserves' from Nos. 30 to 21. These 10 girls will fill in the vacant positions, and participate in the New Year show... No. 30... Fujikawa Noribi..."
Aki is still messing up her part. Everyone seems to be getting impatient especially the director and Hiromi. Aki doesn't open the door of her 'apartment' because she could not see the AD's signal. She is asked to 'count slowly on her own' for 5 seconds. Aki does so but counting 5 seconds 'slowly on her own' took 18 seconds. Director: "Too long!"
"No. 29..." Futomaki continues with the announcement of the 'Reserves' results. "GMT6 Miyashita Ayumi." In the Hole, Ayumi and the girls burst into cheers. "Hurry and go!" Ayumi crying out of happiness goes up to the stage.
Back at the studio. Aki this time opens the door right on time. But... "Suzuka-san had moved last week." Director: "Cut! Wrong name!" Aki: "Eh? What should I say?" AD: "Shimada-san." Aki: "What did I say?" Hiromi answers, "Suzuka-san." Aki laughs at her mistake. Hiromi also laughs but in an exasperated kind of way. "I wouldn't want to move, right?"
Futomaki: "No. 26... Endo Mana!" Mana who is lying down on a couch, feeling too nervous and sick, hears her name and could not believe it. "No way!" The girls congratulate her, and she, too, leaves the Hole crying and goes up the stage.
Aki this time delivers her line but still... "Koike-san had moved last week." "CUT!" shouts the director and asks his AD, "Koike, what's the next take?" AD: "36." The director could not believe it's taking this long for just one line. The next take is about to begin but Takuma's phone rings. "Who is that?! Turn off your devices when inside the studio!" Takuma apologizes and answers his phone.
"Next, from 20 to 9..." Futomaki continues while the crowd of cheerers and supporters applaud and wait below the theater. "I will announce the Regulars." The crowd chants, "Regular, Regular!" Futomaki: "No. 20... GMT Onodera Kaoruko!" Kaoruko bursts into tears when she hears her name. The other remaining girls, Eren and Shiori congratulate her. "Go on now, Regular!"
Aki meanwhile has delivered her line perfectly and on cue. She realizes she was able to do it finally and grins happily. Director: "Cut! You mustn't smile!" Aki: "Oh, right! Sorry!" They set it up again. Takuma goes to Aki to tell her he's going back to the theater. "There's a bit of a problem. Sorry." Aki asks him if her name has been called. Takuma says no. Aki: "It'll be okay, right? 'Cause my misanga broke." She shows him her remaining bracelets.
Futomaki: "Before I announce the 'Hakkenden,' next are the 'Beyonds' from No. 31 and below... In other words, I will announce the Hole group." Aki: 'The members of GMT did not expect
that their straightforward promotional activities would result in a big strong showing... That its influence resulted to an upset.' "No. 31... Arima Megu." A shocked audience lets out cries and groans. Some fans even fainted. As Aki the narrator says, 'AmeJo's Center, Arima Megu-chan, alias Mamerin, had an unexpected fall to the Hole.'
By this time, Eren and Shiori are left below. As more names of other girls are announced, they know that their chances of getting called are becoming slimmer and slimmer. (Dammit... Really so hard to watch! TTT____TTT)
But then... "No. 38..." Futomaki continues, "What-What is this?... How do you read this? Eh? Ki- Kya..." Ellen's name and picture is flashed on the screen. "Kyan Eren, GMT Okinawa!" But Ellen did not smile nor break into cheer. Instead, she looks at Shiori and apologizes (omg i was crying buckets at this scene, heck, even now just by remembering it *punches hole through wall*) "I'm sorry." Shiori smiles and says, "Nankurunai sa (Don't worry)." Eren: "We don't know yet who the last two are... It must be you and Aki-chan, right? There's no way you'll be dismissed." Shiori laughs and pushes her to go up the stage, "Go already!" Shiori: "You really did your best... It'll be okay. Come quickly okay? We'll be waiting."
Eren leaves and Shiori is the only one left now. She and Aki are just the remaining GMTs left who have not been called. "Next. No. 39." says Futomaki from the screen. Audience: "Two more! Two more!" Futomaki: "Narita Rina!... Next No. 40...." Audience: "One more to go! One more to go!"
And finally...
"Shimada-san had moved last week," says Neighbor C. The heavily pregnant lawyer looks at Neighbor C and says, "Is that so? Oh." She goes off down the hallway. Director shouts, "Cut! OK!" The very patient AD Koike cheers for Aki. "You did it! You did it! Thanks for the hard work!"
The tired crew and pissed Director walks away, as Aki bursts into tears for finally finishing up her small part.
Aki apologizes to them as well. She also thanks Hiromi and says sorry. Hiromi: "Never mind. It's okay. See you tomorrow." Aki: "Eh? Is it okay?" Hiromi: "Of course." Hiromi: "Just as an assistant... As an actress, it's impossible." Aki: "What?" Hiromi: "You’re fun companion and nice to have you around. But as an actress, you're not suited for it.. You're no good..." She walks away but a shocked Aki asks her, "You did tell me, 'You remind me of my old self," right?" Hiromi: "I was mistaken! What a laugh, so funny... So, I can't give you acting part any more... If you're okay with that, you can keep coming. I'm sorry, if this happens again. I'll lose my job too..." She goes back to her dressing room, tired. "Thanks for the hard work, everyone!"
"No. 40..."
Taneichi who has arrived at the front of the theater, has been watching the event, too. He has a worried look on his face as Aki's name hasn't been called yet. The rest of the audience, including Shiori wait with bated breath.
"...Takahata Arisa. That's all." Futomaki continues... "The following members are to be dismissed as promised. GMT Iruma Shiori. Also, Amano Aki..." Shiori probably could not hear the rest anymore. Outside the audience is chanting, "Dismissed! Dismissed!..."
A devastated Shiori is leaving and goes to the attendance board. Instead of turning over her nameplate, she takes it with her, and goes out the door. But Takuma goes after her. She says, "Though it was for a short time, thank you for everything." She bows to him and walks away but Takuma pulls her back to the Theater. "There's something you don't know yet."
Aki goes back to the theater still unaware that she has been dismissed. She is too sad and feeling down over what Hiromi had told her. Taneichi sees her and thinks she already knows. "Too bad about the voting." Aki: "What?" Realizing it, Takuma utters, "Jeh! Weren't you feeling depressed?... Jejeh! Uwah, I'm sorry! Sorry, my bad." Aki: "The misanga broke though." Taneichi: "Eh?" Aki: "Even though one of the misangas broke off yesterday, nothing good came out... Oh, right. Katsue-san and Yayoi-san were dozing when they were weaving the misangas. Somehow, it's why my wish didn't come true." Taneichi: "Well, it's not really the case." He shows Aki an email message on the phone. "A little while ago, Yui emailed me for the first time. Her dad had been discharged." Aki: "Jejejejeh! Adachi-sensei? And then Yui will come, won't she? She will come to Tokyo! I see!... That's why it broke off! The Ama misanga did it..."
Just then, Mana comes and tells her that something happened. "Ayumi-san has quit GMT! Hurry, come!"
Ep. 89. Inside the Heartful Office, Ayumi is being questioned by Kawashima and Takuma. Kawashima shows her pics in the laptop. They were seemingly candid shots of Ayumi looking sweetly intimate with a certain guy. Kawashima says they were sent by an anonymous person. "Answer honestly. Who is this guy?" Takuma: "A friend? Like from your part-time job... (Then, he tries to give her a way-out) Areh, isn't he your big brother..." But Ayumi refuses it. "He's my boyfriend." Kawashima orders her to read the company's 3 Rules on Prohibited Love, printed in huge posters pinned on the board. "Don't take pictures. Don't get your picture taken. Don't go with them." Kawashima: "Honestly, I'm surprised. Not just main members but I never thought I have to keep eye on the Hole group, too. Because you're all nobodies, basically you're all ordinary people. Then, may be this was taken by someone within, don't you think? That's scary, Amejo is scary!!" Takuma feeling offended by Kawashima's remarks, and says, "No, it's not! I mean, AmeJo wouldn't do such a thing, right?" Kawashima nods and asks Ayumi what she will do now. She asks to be given 5 seconds to think about it, but answers in two seconds: "I quit... I love my boyfriend." Kawashima asks her if she's serious. "You can't come back to the Hole!" Ayumi: "It's okay. I rather do my best for my boyfriend, instead with friends who will betray me without any hesitation. Thank you for everything!"
There is a tensed atmosphere at the Hole. The managers and the girls are there, including Aki who has just arrived. Shiori is looking at the pics of Ayumi and her boyfriend. "What does this mean?" Ayumi: "Pictures were taken. I'm going to live with him. I'll quit being an idol. I'm already 21.. and I love him." Shiori (to Takuma): "Mizuguchi-san, what did you mean when you said, I don't know it yet." Takuma: "Since Ayumi has quit, those below No. 29 will move up one by one... You barely made it at No. 40, and won't get dismissed." Shiori flares up at Ayumi, and shoves her down on the floor. The girls try to stop her. "I don't want such a thing! It's disgusting so just stop it! What did you do a stupid thing for? You think I'd be happy if you quit and I moved up? Stop messing around! If you intend to be an Idol, you shouldn't be dating!" Then she realizes what she had done. "I see, that's it... Because I'm annoying character like this, that's why I didn't make it." She goes and sits down. Ayumi, crying, goes down on her knees. "Sorry, Leader! I'm really sorry! I had suspicions... I thought you may be the one took these pictures... Because I only told you about having a boyfriend... I'm sorry. I'm such a dubious person... I'm the worst!"
"What happened, Amano?" Aki hears someone behind her. It is Takuma who somehow managed to go down the Hole to see what is going on. Aki doesn't answer and just glares at him. "What're you doing here?"
"What work does he do?" Eren asks Ayumi. "He's a cook. Works part-time at a Ninja izakaya in Shinjuku." Takuma somehow finds that funny and lets out a soft chuckle (Gyohten, is that you? lol). The girls glare at him, too and he apologizes. Ayumi continues, "We're in love. We're also thinking of getting married. Someday, I'm going back to Tokushima... Two of us are talking about setting up a shop. I have caused you so much trouble..."
"In that case, quit, girl! By all means, quit!" They were uttered by Futomaki, standing on top of the stairs. Girls: "Jejeh!... What is this, we thought you were in New York?" Futomaki goes down the stairs as he explains: "That was a recording. Other words, it was a composite. I was in the sushi shop." He holds up a sushi in his hand. Eren: "Ah~... you deceived us." Futomaki: "The Strictly-No-Love is not a rule to tie you guys down. As young people, you have hidden possibilities. Consider it as being given an opportunity. Do you want to live the stoic life of an Idol... Or have a relationship and drown in love with your boyfriend? (Looks at Ayumi) You want an exclusive relationship (with your boyfriend), don't you?" Ayumi: "Yes." Futomaki: "She said 'yes' (chuckles sarcastically)... (to everyone) Listen! Healthy women want to love. Those who suppress such an understandable feeling gets to stand on the stage. That's what an Idol is. Few people are chosen for this work. Right, Ama-chan?" Aki: "Yes." Futomaki: "Don't 'Yes' me! Didn't you have 40 outtakes at the set today?" Taneichi: "Jejeh! Seriously... For real?" Futomaki: "For real alright! It's the opposite of talent. Somehow flubbing up 40 times..." Aki: "I'm sorry! Next time, I'll make sure--" Futomaki: "There won't be a next time! Nothing good will happen for you anymore. This is the answer. There is no one here that needs you." He gobbles up the sushi in his hand, and removes a poster written presumably by Aki ("If everyone wins, let's go out for sushi!") and hands it to her. He continues. "All of you should be down in the dumps! Don't be fooled by your young age!" All the girls respond sadly, "Yes, sir" as he leaves.
Next, we see Ayumi leaving the dorm, and saying goodbye to the girls. As she said, she had quit GMT and is going to live with her boyfriend. They had their souvenir picture taken as well. Ayumi thanks the girls for everything and says she will be cheering for them. Shiori: "I owe you but I'm not going to thank you. Once I make it to the top, I'll thank you." She goes and gives her a hug.
For the rest of the girls, Aki explains, 'Onodera-chan got a big promotion as regular member of AmeJo. But she will live at the dorm until spring when her Mom moves to Tokyo... Mana-chan of Saga was promoted as reserve... And will also appear at the New Year Live show. But, until she saves enough money, will continue to stay at the dorm. Kyan-chan of Okinawa and Leader are in the Hole group along with Mamerin who fell from the top. And as for me... I replaced an AmeJo who had been dropped to the Hole and decided to retire... so somehow, I slipped to No. 40. But rather than feel happy or relieved about it, I feel angry about myself, hoping for something like this. And what Futomaki-san said... ("There is no one here that needs you!") ...is still in my mind.'
During the New Year show of AmeJo, Mana and Kaoruko are taking part in it. For the rest, the basement is being used as a waiting room, so the Hole group was driven out. So for the New Year, Shiori went back to her home. And since Eren was worried Aki will be alone for the New year, she remained in the dorm with her. Aki apologizes to Eren for that. Eren: "Don't mind it. Because a round-trip airfare is just a waste. By the way, Aki, don't you have a home in Setagaya?" Aki remembering the time that the woman was there, says, that home is not a home for her. Then, Taneichi arrives bearing sushi set gifts for the girls. "My boss asked me to deliver it to you." Eren mimicking the sourish smile of Umezu. "Oh, that Chef Gross-san?" Taneichi: "He thought you'd be lonely since there's only two of you. (To Eren) Eh? My Boss is gross?" Eren: "Uh, yes. Something like the feeling of a habu (viper)... Like in his eyes, and his movements, it's kinda like a habu, isn't it?" He is about to leave when Aki asks him, "Aren't you going home (to Kitasanriku), Senpai?" He answers, "I can't anymore, there's a New Year banquet we have to do..." He smiles at Aki: "Do your best! I shouldn't be the one to say this but... I feel that going home in this timing is like admitting my failure..." Aki seems to be taken aback by that last remark from Taneichi. She thanks him and says goodbye.
Later, the two girls watch the New Year show through the internet while eating their sushi. "Ah! There's Onodera-chan!" They start to dance and sing along to AmeJos' "On the Calender is December." And then Aki stops and mutters, "I wish I could be in it..." Eren takes her mind off it by offering her her uni sushi (in exchange for Aki's cucumber sushi), and Aki happily accepts it. As she bites it, 'something about the taste of uni on that day touched a particular part of me.' Then, memories of Kitasanriku come flooding back to her...
"It's no good..." She stands up and goes to her room. "I'm going back after all! I'm going home!" She explains to a perplexed Eren. "If we go now, we can catch the late-night bus ride to Miyako!"
Ep. 90. On a snowy first day of 2010, a KitaTetsu train, bearing Aki and Eren, arrives at the main station in Kitasanriku. It is Aki's first time to come back after 4 months.
At the train stationmaster's booth, Yoshida sees her first. "Jejeh!" He is so flabbergasted as he tries to call Daikichi, that he jumbles up "Jeh" and "Ekicho" (station master) together. "Jekicho!" Daikichi sees Aki too and is pleasantly surprised. "Aki-chan! Welcome back!" Aki greets them a happy new year and introduces Eren to them. The men give them hot milk (?) and chats with them at the lobby. Aki meanwhile asks if the Rias shop is closed for the holiday. Daikichi says it's open since customers are doing "Hatsumode" (first shrine visit of the New Year) so it's business as usual. Haruko arrives not knowing Aki is coming so she is surprised to see her, too. She exclaims in full Tohoku accent. "Jejeh! The heck, why didn't you say you'll come back!" Aki: "I changed my mind. Since it was too sudden, I wasn't able to bring omiyage (gifts)." She introduces Eren who greets them with "Haisai!"
Later inside the Rias, Sugawara and Ben drop in to see Aki. They happily greet each other and Eren is introduced to them as well. Then, Eren notices another person had come in. "Say, Aki? One who looks like a Yankii, is looking over here." Aki looks and sees Yui, sitting glumly behind the bar. "Yui-chan?!" Yui does not say anything and just scowls at her. Haruko: "She helps around in the shop." Aki: "Jejejejeh! Since when?" Yoshida: "November. It's been hard, when her Mom went up and left." Aki to herself: 'I had forgotten. That I did bring an omiyage from Tokyo... But I mustn't say it.' Ben: "She does say hello to me while looking at me in the eye. (Looks at Yui) She hasn't yet today but..." Haruko tries to egg the two on. "What's the matter with you, Aki and Yui-chan! It's been a while so you gals should catch up!" But Aki tries to change the topic by saying, "Somehow, Mom, it sounds strange to hear you speak with an accent." Haruko "Jejeh! Is that so?" Daikichi stands up and goes over to Haruko. He places his hand on her shoulder like in an affectionate way. "I don't think it sounds funny! Haruko (without using an honorific) is a Sodegahama woman, it should only be natural to have an accent." Aki notices it. "Areh? Areh areh? There's something different about you two." Sugawara: "You're really perceptive, Aki-chan." Yoshida: "Since it's a sensitive issue, you should hear it in person." Aki: "What is it?" Daikichi: "Actually, I have proposed to her!" Aki: "Jejejeh!" Daikichi: "Last Christmas... It's already one year since Haruko had the divorce so I thought it's about time." Aki remembers what her father had said ('We've broken up. And I guess, I still love my wife...). Aki: 'Shoot! I needed more than one omiyage'. But Haruko says, "I haven't given him an answer yet."
Ben now shifts his attention to Eren. "You're quiet, Kyan-chan, you want me to make you amber earrings?" He shows off a big piece of rough amber. Eren: "No thanks, my ears are not pierced yet." Yoshida: "Are you having fun?" Eren: "Not really 'having fun'... (In Okinawan dialect) I don't understand what you're saying... But I think I'm enjoying myself a bit." Everyone is quiet, trying to get what she just said. Yoshida; "Dunno what she said! It's the language barrier! LOL" Then Daikichi stands up to sing. Everybody expects it to be a song from Begin in honor of their guest but of course, he chooses 'Ghostbusters.' Eren is happy with the selection anyway, and gets up to dance an Okinawan dance. Sugawara: "It's a fusion of Okinawa and 'Ghostbusters'!"
Meanwhile, Aki notices Yui had gone out and goes after her. "Yui-chan!" She stops when she sees Yui with her Yankii boyfriend, leaving the station, with his arm around her shoulders. Hiroshi arrives, saying that maybe they're off to go and do Hatsumode. "Since she quit the high school, she changed friends too... She didn't even acknowledge those people before..." Aki: "Taneichi-senpai still intends to go steady with Yui-chan." Hiroshi tells her to keep it a secret from him. "Eventually, he will also open his eyes and realize it." Aki: 'Jeez, how can this be, every time I see some one, I need more omiyage. And it’s only been 4 months..' Hiroshi hands her hot milk and greets her with "welcome back."
Next, Aki brings Eren to the Ama Cafe. Rokuro sees her first and calls out everyone. Of course, everyone erupts in "Jejejehs" and "Aki! Aki!" except for Tamako who is in a serious mood in the kitchen, trying to perfect the taste of Mamebu for the New Year. The young rookies also greet and congratulate her for "winning by default" in the recent idol elections. Aki smiles wryly and hastily introduces Eren to them. Aki: "Oh, and speaking of mamebu, I met Anbe-chan in Tokyo. She's traveling via food truck, selling mamebu by herself..." (Meanwhile, Anbe is in Tokyo trying her best to sell "Mamebu!" amidst other vendors who are selling "Kebabu!" or kebab).
The frank Yayoi notices Eren. "Areh? What's with you? Though you're from Okinawa, you're awfully quiet." And the equally frank Eren answers back in Okinawan dialect. "No, no. It's not that I'm from Okinawa, it's you guys who are really noisy." The Ama-sans are quiet. Then, Yayoi: "Have no idea what you just said!" Katsue: "Guess we can cancel each other out!" They all laugh.
Then they ask Aki if she found a boyfriend in Tokyo. The rookie Amas say that it's impossible. "The training is too strict, right? And also, love is prohibited among AmeJo, isn't it?" Aki answers coyly, "Oh, well." Everyone: "Oh, well? Seems there is something huh!" Aki sees the stage where she performed with Yui during the Ama Sonic, and reminisces.
Next, Aki takes Eren to the Amano home. From inside they hear people shouting.
Natsu: "I've had enough! You told me you wanna eat zoni (rice cakes) so I took my time to make it for you!" Chuubei: "I never said I want to eat zonii! I just said zonii sounds good." Natsu: "What’s the difference! Along with zonii, I worked hard to make New Year special dishes too. And you have the nerve to say you want to eat ham!?" (lmao!) They continue to squabble and Chuubei says he's leaving. Natsu: "Yeah, go! Go!" Chuubei opens the door and sees Aki. "Aki!" "Jii-chan!" Natsu sees her, too and shoves aside her husband to hug her granddaughter. "Aki Aki Aki~!"
Back at the Rias...
Isono-sensei comes in looking for Aki. They tell him he's too late, and that she already went home. Isono is disappointed since he bought a board for her autograph.
Then another unexpected guest arrives. "Jejejeh! Adachi-sensei!" Isao has come in, assisted by Hiroshi. The older man greets them, "It's been a while!" Everyone is so delighted with today's events. "Well, what's with this day today, huh?What is this!"
At the Amano home, Misuzu, Katsue and Rokuro gather to have a feast with the Amano family and Eren. They talk with Eren regarding her and Okinawa. Misuzu: "The ocean here is pretty different, isn't it?" Eren: "Have you been there?" Misuzu: "I lived there for 6 months." Katsue, says teasingly, "With a man?" Misuzu: "I wasn't necessarily alone." They joke on how Misuzu's life story seems getting more and more interesting "with each new episode." Katsue tells her she should write her autobiography. Misuzu: "It's just that... I can't write." They guffaw heartily.
Chuubei suggests to Natsu that they should both visit Okinawa someday. Natsu: "No thanks. I've never even been to Tokyo." Aki: "Yeah. It's because she knows that this is the best place to be, right?" Rokuro: "So how's Tokyo, Aki? Were you able to have many friends?" Aki: "Well, I don't know if they're 'friends' but..." Aki is thinking, 'The truth is there are many things I wanted to tell them but... if I start talking, I feel I won't be able to stop... So I just stayed silent.' Eren to Aki: "But Aki, you're really something." Aki: "Why?" Eren: "Wherever I go, everyone is going 'Aki, Aki!' Over here you really ARE an idol." Everyone agrees to that, and Aki smiles. She says to her, "But it'll be the same for you once you go back to your hometown, right?" Eren: "I wonder about that... But I do feel like I wanna go back home."
Then Aki hears her phone ring. She inspects it and sees a message from Yui asking her to come to the Ama cafe. She excuses herself to Eren, promising to come back.
At the Ama Cafe, Aki sees Yui sitting on the stage, painting her nails. Yui looks up at her, still not seemingly friendly at all...
