Amachan: Character Guide (UPDATED)

This list will continue to be updated as I add more episode guides.

The Amano Family:

Amano Aki (Nounen Rena). 16 year old high school girl from Tokyo who decided to stay in her mother's hometown of Kitasanriku and become an Ama. Seen as shy, plain and gloomy while in Tokyo, she is happier and livelier when she transferred to Kitasanriku. A video of her as an Ama gets uploaded on the internet and she becomes an overnight sensation. Later on, she took up Underwater Civil Engineering in high school. She has also decided to return to Tokyo to become an idol after one year. She joins upcoming idol group GMT46 and also works as an assistant to a famous actress.
Amano Natsu (Miyamoto Nobuko). Aki's grandmother, 64 yo. She's the oldest among the Ama and serves as president of the Ama Club. Manages a shop located at the main train station: Cafe Rias which at night becomes Snack Bar Rias. She was born and raised in the fishing village of Sodegahama, and has never left Kitasanriku.
Amano Haruko adult (Koizumi Kyoko). Natsu's daughter and Aki's mother, 42 yo. She left 24 years ago for Tokyo and never returned until now. She got married in Tokyo, had a daughter and became a stay-in mother. She hates the sea and refuses to become an Ama. She came back to her hometown with her daughter Aki. Decided to divorce her husband Masamune and stay on in Kitasanriku. Helps man Natsu's shop.
Amano Chubei (Kanie Keizo). Natsu's husband and Haruko's father. A deep-sea fisherman who goes to fish for most of the year, and hardly stays at home. At first, Haruko and Aki thought he was dead but suddenly appeared one day in town.
The Adachi Family:

Adachi Hiroshi (Koike Teppei). Son of the district congressman. Seems gloomy and a loner at first. He dropped out of college, went to Tokyo to work at a hotel but quit and went home after two months. Later, he got a job at the Tourism Office. He is in love with Aki. He is nicknamed "Stove-san" because he usually stays in front of a wood-burning stove at home.
Adachi Yui (Hashimoto Ai). Hiroshi's sister, same age but slightly older than Aki. Wants to become an idol in Tokyo. She was declared as "Miss KitaTetsu" and became an idol of train otakus, and TV reporter for a local station.
Adachi Isao (Hirazumi Sei). Father of Hiroshi and Yui. He is a congressman and former high school teacher of Haruko, Sugawara, and Daikichi. He does not get along with Hiroshi at first but dotes on Yui.
Adachi Yoshie (Yagi Akiko). Wife of Isao, and mother of Hiroshi and Yui. She was a local TV personality but retired after marrying Isao.
The Ama Club:

Konno Yayoi (Watanabe Eri). Ama, 56 yo. Married to a businessman. Always wears clothes with busy prints from their boutique business. Loves to sing chanson and jazz songs. Has trouble remembering English words. Helped Yui and Aki with their singing. Helps man Natsu's shop.
Osanai Katsue (Kino Hana). Ama, 54 yo. Married and divorced the Fishing Co-op President Rokuro but they are still living together. Handles accounting matters at the Co-op. She and Rokuro lost a son 18 years ago due to a drowning accident.
Kumagai Misuzu (Miho Jun). Ama, single, 50 yo. Once the most popular member when she was young. She had eloped two times before, including running away with one of her boyfriends to Jeju Island, South Korea, and worked as an Ama there. Suffers from poor circulation or sensitivity to the cold. Also helps man Natsu's shop. Fell in love with the talent scout, Mizuguchi.
Anbe Sayuri (Katagiri Hairi). Before Aki came in, she was the youngest Ama at 42 yo. Former high school classmate of Haruko. 18 years ago, she was married to Daikichi for only 6 months, and then divorced. Assists as a clerk at the Fishing Co-op. Avid member of the Mamebu Appreciation Club, which is group who loves the local delicacy called mamebu soup. Later she leaves town to promote the said dish.
Kitasanriku Railway:

Omukai Daikichi adult (Sugimoto Tetta). Kitasanriku Train Station Master, 44 yo. High school senpai of Haruko and Sugawara. Has long been in love with Haruko. Cares a lot about his hometown and wants to solve its depopulation issue. Been married once to Anbe.
Yoshida Masayoshi (Arakawa YoshiYoshi). Assistant of Daikichi. Also helps man Natsu's shop.
Kitasanriku Tourism Association Office:

Sugawara Tamotsu (Fukikoshi Mitsuru). Chief of Tourism Office 42 yo, former high school classmate of Haruko. Tasked by the City Hall to help promote tourism in the city. Also had a high school crush on Haruko.
Kurihara Shiori (Ando Tamae). Secretary at the Tourism Office. She had fallen for her co-employee, Adachi Hiroshi.

Osanai Rokuro (Denden). Sodegahama Fishing Cooperative president, ex-husband of Katsue and a good friend of the Amano couple.
Konno Atsushi (Sugawara Daikichi). Husband of Yayoi, head of the local Business Association. He owns several branches of Boutique Konno.
Oda Ben (Shiomi Sansei). An amber enthusiast. He believes Kitasanriku has a bright future in amber mining. Has a business that sells amber accessories, including amber misanga bracelets. A regular customer of Natsu's shop.
Hanamaki Tamako (Ise Shima). New clerk at the Fishing Co-op, replacing Anbe. A native of Sodegahama, and a single mother of two girls.
Taneichi Koichi (Fukushi Sota). Third year high school student, senpai of Yui and Aki. Aki has developed a crush on him. Set to graduate from Underwater Civil Engineering Department and work for an elite construction company in Tokyo. Later he quit his job as underwater construction worker and became an assistant at a sushi restaurant in Tokyo.
Isono Shinpei (Minagawa Sarutoki). Teacher at Kitasanriku High School's Underwater Civil Engineering Department.
Suzuka Hiromi (Yakushimaru Hiroko). Well-respected actress. Debuted as an idol in 1986 by starring in the movie "Shiosai no Memory" which went on to become a hit movie. She is also known to have sung its theme song. She later hires Aki as her assistant.
Kurokawa Masamune (Omi Toshinori). Haruko's husband, Aki's father. Works as an independent cab driver in Tokyo. Haruko decided to divorce him after moving back to her hometown.
Heartful Talent Agency:

Mizuguchi Takuma (Matsuda Ryuhei). A talent scout who works for a leading talent agency in Tokyo called "Heartful." Also tasked as manager for a new idol group called GMT47. Went to Kitasanriku to secretly scout Yui and Aki. Introduced himself as an archeology student who loves amber so he could hide his real profession. He was nicknamed "MizuTaku."
Aramaki Taichi (Furuta Arata). President of Heartful Office, and entertainment producer dealing with idols. His nickname is "Futomaki." Has two theaters in Ueno and Shinagawa to showcase his idol talents. His main idol group is Ameyoko Jogakuen (or AmeJo). Its little sister idol unit GMT47 is a new project conceived by Aramaki to gather idol groups from each of the 47 prefectures in order to come up with one national idol group.
Kawashima Kosaku (Magi). Chief manager of "Ameyoko Jogakuen." Loyal to Aramaki.
Idols from Heartful:

Arima Meg (Adachi Rika). Member of AmeJo, the Center member who had fallen from the top spot after a popularity vote. Nickname: Mamerin. A bit aloof and controversial but has a professional attitude. She is rumored to have a boyfriend even if dating is not allowed in the agency.
Iruma Shiori (Matsuoka Mayu). GMT Saitama. Originally from local idol group, "No Ocean." The leader of GMT, same age as Aki.
Miyashita Ayumi (Yamashita Rio). GMT Tokushima. Originally the leader of local idol group "Whirlpool 7." She said she is 19 yo but later on admitted that she's really 20.
Endo Mana (Ohno Ito). GMT Fukuoka. Originally from local group "Oyafuko Dolls," representing the local delicacy yuzu kosho (or yuzu pepper paste). Same age as Aki. She later admitted she is actually from Saga Prefecture.
Kyan Ellen (Kurashita Honami). GMT Okinawa. Same age as Aki.
Onodera Kaoruko (Yuki Mio). GMT Miyagi. So far the youngest member at 14 yo. Originally from local idol group "Beef Tongue Girls." Shares a room with Aki in the GMT dorm. She became the Center of GMT5.
Veronica (Saito Alina). GMT Brazil. Replaced Aki when Aki quit GMT. Her dad is from Yamanashi Prefecture and her mom is from Brazil.

Kai-san (Matsuo Suzuki). Shopkeeper of a coffeeshop called "Idol" in Harajuku. Hired a young Haruko as a part-time waitress during the 80s.
Umezu (Pierre Taki). Sushi chef and head of a sushi restaurant called "Burai Sushi." Hired Taneichi as his assistant.
Hibiki Ichiro (Murasugi Seminosuke). Camera Boy or hobby photographer and otaku. A big fan and supporter of Yui. First appeared in the Hometown Arc, who came to Kitasanriku from Tokyo to visit Yui. In the Tokyo Arc, he became a leading critic of idols, and a regular columnist for an idol magazine.
