Ep. 6: "First love fulfilled, a couple is born! Tragedy of the Dance Party... Hearts communicating in the middle of the night"

Episode Synopsis. Reiji (Ohno Satoshi) and Misaki (Haru) are officially a couple, and have started dating. Aside from Muraoki (Koike Eiko), Ishigami (Sugimoto Tetta) and Mahiro (Shimizu Fumika), nobody else at the office knows about the couple's relationship, as requested by Misaki. She tells Reiji she does not want to mix work with her private life, so the two continue on with their professional relationship while at work. The much-awaited Hotel Association party will also be held on a coming Saturday, and Reiji is planning to ask Misaki to be his companion. However, a business trip to Kyoto will take place on that same Saturday, and she is interested in joining it, as well as Mahiro and Miura (Kotaki Nomozu). Since only one of them is allowed to go, the three will decide it via a game of rock-paper-scissors. A panicking Reiji wants to make sure that Misaki loses the game...
Drama Notes:

Shōten [笑点]. I think I've already mentioned about this in my other drama notes somewhere here in my blog lol I can't remember anymore. Anyway, it's a show on NTV (same network as this drama), and it features Rakugo artists (regulars of the show) who earn points by coming up with the best jokes. In this show, the points are in the form of futons which they sit on, so the more points they have, the more they accumulate futon, and the higher they go up, literally. As mentioned in this episode, the show is on its 50th year. The Rakugo artist who made a cameo appearance in this episode is Hayashiya Taihei [林家たい平] (orange kimono, front row with fan), one of the regulars of "Shoten" while the "Master" that he mentioned was Rakugo veteran, Sanyutei Koyuza [三遊亭 小遊三] (blue kimono, front row).

What was actually said: "Okara". I also already explained "Okara", probably in one of my Kodoku No Gurume notes. It's the byproduct when making tofu, and it's used in making vegetarian meals, like unohana (above pic), and vegan burgers. In my subs, I called it "tofu lees", so I could somehow come up with a semblance of a pun. What Misaki's Granddad actually said: "Healthy for the karada (body)... Okara da (It's okara)."

Drama Notes:
Shiiku-kakari [飼育係]. Reiji says he was usually assigned as a "shiiku-kakari" or the student in charge of the pets kept in schools (preschool and elementary), as well as their pens or sheds. Keeping pets in schools is meant to teach kids petcare, and the value of life (birth and death), compassion and respect for living things. Animals include rabbits, hamsters, fishes, hens, turtles.

Shazai Kaiken [謝罪会見]. It is what the name says, a press conference of apology. The person who is at fault may be the one who faces the media but sometimes a proxy will do it as well. The proxy bows down and may even weep in front of the cameras. That is why Reiji was sort of acting as a proxy for the fictional "Isanami Suyao-sensei", and was kneeling, dogeza-style while talking with Misaki on the phone.
