Taishi Kakka no Ryourinin (Jan. 3, FujiTV) is a drama special based on the manga with the same title by Nishimura Mitsuru (story) and Kawasumi Hiroshi (art). It stars Sakurai Sho as Osawa Ko, a chef who specializes in French cuisine. Osawa had been working as a sous chef at a high class hotel, under grand chef Murakami Shinzo (Takenaka Naoto). However, his real dream is to convey his feelings through his dishes and see the reactions of those who taste it, which is not possible when cooking for hotel guests. So he quits his job and goes to Vietnam to become the chef of the Japanese Embassy. His wife, Hitomi (Hirosue Ryoko) does not want her husband to leave, since their young daughter will be without her father. However, she does understand her husband's love for cooking even before she married him... In Vietnam, Ko does his job of serving as the embassy's official residence chef. He is surrounded by co-workers who support him: his half-Japanese, half-Vietnamese assistant Lê Thi Lan (Goroki Ayame) and professional interpreter Furuta Seiichi (Ohkura Keiji). He tries his best coming up with, and serving the most suitable dishes for official diplomatic banquets. As hinted by his employer, Ambassador Kuraki Kazuya (Nishida Toshiyuki), these banquets are heaped with "hidden agenda". However, no matter what Ko does, he has never heard Kuraki say his dishes are delicious... Meanwhile, Kuraki had been tasked by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to find a way to persuade the current Vietnamese administration to hold a summit with the Japanese Prime Minister. Relations between both countries are not going so well since Vietnamese officials are cold towards their Japanese counterparts. So Kuraki has to rely on Osaka's culinary skills as an unconventional means of diplomacy...
