Seirei no Moribito (Season 1): Drama Notes

Sorry if it took so long to post this. But finally here are the notes for NHK's live action 2016 drama, Seirei no Moribito (Season 1). Basically most of these are additional information and details from the novel, that are not mentioned in in the live-action adaptation. I will not discuss about the anime, since I have not watched it. So far, I have only read the first book (wonderful English translation by Cathy Hirano), and read the synopses of the rest (there are nine books in the series), so my knowledge is still very limited.

Moribito Series. There are nine books (published 1996-2007 under Kaiseisha and Shinchosha) overall, which also includes short stories that offer sneak look into the past of Balsa and Tanda. The first book had been made into a manga and anime.

Seirei no Moribito (Season 1): Subbing Project (Complete)

Seirei No Moribito Season 1 (Spring 2016, NHK) is based on Uehashi Naoko's 1996 novel of the same title, the first of a series called "The Moribito Series". It stars Ayase Haruka as Balsa, the female bodyguard for hire, who is skilled in the art of combat, especially with the use of a spear. While traveling in Kosenkyo, the capital of the kingdom of New Yogo, she saves a boy who fell in a raging river. This boy happens to be Prince Chagum (Kobayashi Kai), the second son of the Emperor of New Yogo (Fujiwara Tatsuya). Balsa was later on hired by the prince's mother, the Second Empress (Kimura Fumino), to protect her son. The Empress says Chagum bears an evil spirit inside of him, and because of that, the Emperor wants him dead. Balsa accepts the role of Chagum's bodyguard, and escapes with him. They fled the city in search of Tanda (Higashide Masahiro), Balsa's childhood friend, and Torogai (Takashima Reiko), a shaman from the indigenous tribe of Yaku. She believes Tanda and Torogai will help shed light on the mysterious spirit that is inside Chagum... Meanwhile, at the Palace, there is also another person who wants to get to the bottom of the so-called demon that is inside the Prince. He is the star reading expert named Shuga (Hayashi Kento)... Meanwhile, the Emperor sends his assassins, known as the Hunters to pursue and kill the Prince and Balsa...
