Ep. 5 "The Last Promise"

Episode Synopsis: Five years after the fire that destroyed Mahonoya, Maho and her family have not been found and are presumed dead. Matsukichi tries to move on by throwing himself into his work. But deep inside he has never forgotten Maho. In the meantime, Ikawaya's main agar supplier has closed its business due to the effect of the Great Fire of Kyoto. Wasuke has suspended his wholesale business while he looks for a suitable agar to sell but so far, none of the other agar has met his standards. Matsukichi, Umekichi, and all the other employees are doing their best to take on side jobs to augment their income. Meanwhile, there is a new girl in town, and her name is Osaki (Urahama Arisa). She is the granddaughter of Ikawaya's friend and client, Matsubaya (Dan Jiro). She is lovely and headstrong, and has taken a liking towards Matsukichi... One day, Matsukichi had an encounter with a young woman whom he thinks is Maho. He tries to ask her about the fire and what happened to her family but she denies that she is whom he thinks she is. She says she is Otetsu (Matsuoka Mayu), the daughter of dango-maker, Ohiro (Kurara Emi). And yet, when she looks at Matsukichi, it seems she does recognize him. Not only that, she has terrible burn scars on the side of her neck and shoulder... Why is she denying that she is Maho? Matsukichi wonders what really happened...
