Ep. 1: "Guinea fowl and eel bowl of Akabane, Kita Ward"

Episode Synopsis. Goro arrives in Akabane, Kita Ward, pleasantly surprised at how the town has changed. He goes to fruit shop and cafe called "Puchi Mondo" to meet with his client, a rather eccentric lady dressed up in GothLoli-style clothes. She asks him to find akuma (devil) statues for her collection. After his strange meeting, he stays at the cafe to have some refreshments, a fruity creamy sandwich set. Next, he goes to his second client, an owner of a kimono shop. As he arrives there, he is told by the owner's daughter that her father has gone off to another place and asks to meet him there. She gives him some directions plus a heavy bag and umbrella to "please give it to him since you're headed there anyway..." Goro obliges and walks around town to a meeting place that turns out to be a snack bar. The walk made Goro very hungry and of course, we know what that means... He remembers a certain eel shop he visited before and goes to look for it. However, another nearby eel shop catches his eye... It's called "Kawaei" which serves grilled eel, eel rice bowls, and guinea fowl dishes...

Drama Notes:
Akabane, Kita Ward. One of the towns located in Kita Ward. It used to have a sleazy night-life entertainment district but has been redeveloped into a wholesome commercial district especially around the station. This is probably what Inogashira-san meant when he noticed that the town has changed considerably.

Urashima Tarō. This is a "Japanese legend about a fisherman who rescues a turtle and is rewarded for this with a visit to Ryūgū-jō, the palace of Ryūjin, the Dragon God, under the sea. He stays there for three days and, upon his return to his village, finds himself 300 years in the future..."

Western 'Akuma'. The goth lady mentions several demons in western mythology and legends. Pazuzu is best known as the demon in the movie 'The Exorcist.' Amon is the 'Marquis of Hell who governs forty infernal legions'.
Espresso con panna. It's a "single or double shot of espresso topped with whipped cream. In the U.S. it may also be called café Vienne and in the U.K. café Viennois."

Doyo no Ushi. Acc. to japanesepod101, Doyo no Ushi, or "Day of the Ox" is "from the 12 symbols of the Chinese zodiac or during the 18 days before autumn starts". It is also known as "Eat Unagi Day" because of the belief that if you eat eel on this day during the summer, you won’t suffer from the summer heat.
