Here are some notes for the drama SP, Kyokuhoku Rhapsody:

Kyokuhoku Book Series. Written by Kaido Takeru (author of Team Batista), so far two novels have been published, "Kyokuhoku Claimer" and "Kyokuhoku Rhapsody" (Asahi Shimbun Publishing). It centers on Imanaka Yoshio, a young doctor from Tokyo who has been transported in the medical service in Northern Hokkaido. It is considered a spin-off of the "Team Batista/General Rouge"-hen, since some of the characters there are also featured in the "Kyokuhoku"-hen.

Doctor-Heli. Emergency medical services that uses helicopters. In other countries, they're called "Air Ambulance" or "HEMS". In Japan, they're called "Doctor Helicopters." Acc. to hemnet.jp, "The basic requirements for a Doctor Helicopter are: to use a dedicated helicopter with necessary medical devices and medicines on-board; to be on stand-by in the premise of a hospital; to be able to take off with the doctor and nurse on-board within several minutes of receiving a call. The Doctor Helicopter will then land at the emergency spot to provide treatment on site and transport the patient to an appropriate medical facility according to the patient’s needs... Therefore, transportation of the patient is not the only mission of a Doctor Helicopter. The most important role of the service is to dispatch the medical team (doctors and nurses) to the emergency spot as soon as possible."

Paramedics in Japan. If you're wondering why the "fire department" (Emergency number 119 connects to both fire department and emergency medical services) is summoned when there are emergency cases that does not have anything to do with fire, it is because, acc. to ncbi, "Emergency transport service in Japan is mostly performed by the fire department in each local government district/locale. Although not originally a responsibility of the fire department, emergency transport service has been performed by local fire stations since 1986, when it became required by national law..." That is why, paramedics in Japan have also firefighting background.

"Did you get into a fight?" When Hayama saw the scratch on Imanaka's face, they communicated using hand gestures. It seems that the silent conversation went like this:
Hayama: "That scratch. Did you get into a fight?"
Imanaka: "I was attacked by a bear."

Imanaka's sign language seems to imply "bear" as shown in the pic above.

Hayama Koichi. He is one of the main recurring characters in the "General Rouge" series. Clean-cut and tall, he worked as an emergency doctor who rose to higher ranks. Somewhat regarded as arrogant and a tyrant at first, he was nicknamed "General Rouge" or "the bloody general" (since the emergency center is regarded as a "battlefield"). He likes lollipops particularly Chupa Chups. In the movie version, he was portrayed by Sakai Masato while in the drama series (Team Batista 2: Triumphant Return of General Rouge), it was Nishijima Hidetoshi (pix above). In this SP, it was Yamaguchi Yuichiro.

Filming locations. The drama was filmed in Hokkaido particularly in Sapporo, Otaru, Kutchan-cho and Niseko. The Fuji-like, conical-shaped volcano is Mt. Yotei while "Cape Saroma" (where Imanaka was left behind by the Doctor-Heli) is actually Cape Kamui (pics above) in Shakotan.
