MahoEkiBan Ep 2: Drama Notes
Ep. 2: "
Episode Synopsis. It was nighttime at Limelight Bar. Some drunk customers are singing karaoke songs. At a nearby table, Tada and Gyoten are eating their usual dinner. The proprietress comes and reminds them that their over-all bill has already reached over ¥50,000. "When will you pay?" Meantime, Tada hears a karaoke song being played but no one is singing. He looks over and sees a bespectacled man just staring at the karaoke video. The proprietress says he does that all the time. "Puts on the same song, just stares at it and doesn't sing." The next day, the same man pays them a visit at Tada Benriken. He says he will foot their bill at the bar if they take on his unusual request. "Please, let me meet the female model in the karaoke video!..."

Drama Notes:
Issei Fūbi Street Theater Group: Formed in 1980, they're a group of friends who were active in street performance (dancing, street skits), usually in front of NHK building in Shibuya, Tokyo every Sunday. Later on, in 1987, they became the first Asian group to perform at the Apollo Theater in New York City. Issei Fuubi means "to attract people's mind / to dominate the world and have a lot of followers."

LaserDisc. The optical disc that became the first one to be commercially available for home usage, providing higher quality audio and video compared to Betamax and VHS during the '80s and '90s. It was more popular in Japan, and some Asian countries but did not sell well in Western countries "due to its high cost and its players as well." Tantei! Knight Scoop. The TV show mentioned in this drama is based on a popular, long-running TV show based in Osaka (ABC TV) "Tantei! Knight Scoop." Viewers would write to the show their wishes or requests, and the show would send celebrities (mostly comedians) as "detectives" to "investigate" or fulfill the request. One hilarious episode was a wish from a mom who wants to let her three young children (who are zombie horror movie fans) experience fighting a zombie. The show sent actors to fulfill the wish and even let the neighbors participate. If you want to watch (you got to! it's super funny!), here's a clip. Ōshima Nagisa. Film director (1932-2013). When Gyoten saw the customer hit another customer at the bar with a microphone, it reminded him of Oshima's infamous incident with Grave of the Fireflies author Nosaka Akiyuki. In 1990, during Oshima and his wife's 30th wedding anniversary celebration, Nosaka was invited to read a speech. However, Oshima forgot about it but the author went ahead and gave the speech. After the speech, Nosaka, presumably drunk, hit Oshima on the chin. Oshima retaliated by hitting him with a microphone. If you want to see a clip, watch it HERE.

Could be "information leakage" or some kind of secret crime jargon that could mean "smuggling" which Danburi explains, "It could be goods that disappear or fell off the truck during transportation." ...Or since he's in the film business, could be film piracy.
