Shinya Shokudo 3: Drama Notes Ep. 7
Ep. 27: "Freshwater clam soup"

Episode Synopsis.
Hiraga Yoshio (Bengal) and his wife Mizue (Nagashima Eiko) have been coming to Meshiya for breakfast every Saturday morning for a month now. Master always prepares for them freshwater clam-miso soup. He and his other customers think that the couple are a perfect example of a good and loving marriage. One night, Yoshio comes to the shop alone. He says his wife has gone back to their home town because her daughter from a previous marriage has given birth. He admits that he is her third husband, and that Mizue has had a lot of relationships before him. Days passed, and Mizue has not yet come home. Yoshio is getting more and more concerned, especially when he hears that Mizue has been meeting with an old lover. Then, he too, meets a woman one night...
Drama Notes:

Shijimi jiru [しじみ汁] or freshwater clam soup. Shijimi are freshwater clams. More common species in Japan is the Corbicula japonica from the Corbiculidae family, which is also known as basket clams. Most common way to prepare it is making soup out of it with along with miso. Such soup is said to be a good remedy for a hang-over. For a recipe: here

Go or Igo [囲碁]. Literally means "encircling game", a game of strategy played by two players, and originated from China 2,500 years ago. It reached Japan in the 7th century, played mostly by members of the Imperial court than later on by the general public. To play an online game: here.

Momiji manju [もみじ饅頭]. A maple leaf-shaped manju. Also nicknamed "momiman", it is the specialty of Itsukushima (also known as Miyajima) of Hiroshima. This was said to be created by a local sweets maker Takatsu Tsunesuke in 1906 during the Meiji era. It is said that he was compelled to create an original product to be presented to some visiting high-end dignitaries (which included the then crown princes of Japan and Korea), and thus, momji manju was born.
